Title: More Than Nothing
Character: Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton
Words: 139
Prompt: hurt
:::
Nicholas put the album back onto the desk, closing his eyes. Even after all the years, the memories were still so lively. Memories of all the children he hadn't been able to save. It still hurt; he would never stop thinking he hadn't done enough.
Then he turned his head, and his eyes fell on the picture on his desk. The picture of a woman surrounded by her spouse, her children, and grandchildren. A happy family. A family that would never have existed if he hadn't put a half-starved, frightened little girl on a train so many years ago. Like about sixhundred other children.
A light smile turned up on his lips. Some of them he would meet today, and they would laugh and chat and remember the ones they had lost. This was so much more than nothing.
