When Claire realized that Jamie had survived Culloden, her heart stopped beating for a moment.

Twenty years were gone since she had left him behind. It had almost torn her apart, but there was the baby she carried. Jamie's daughter, Brianna. For her, she had been strong. Twenty years. Twenty years without Jamie, which had changed her.

It was naive to think that Jamie hadn't, too. She had never been naive. Even if he had promised her never to love another woman, never to share his life with someone else... It had been a promise at the brink of death. But twenty years...

A part of her wished that he had been able to move on, build a new life without her, find love and happiness again. Even if the thought that he might have forgotten her did hurt.

Her shaking fingers caressed the paper on the desk, the document which had changed everything. When she closed her eyes, pictures turned up in her mind. Jamie, still so young. His dark blue eyes, his red hair. His smile. His voice.

And she knew she would return to him, no matter what awaited her on the other side of the stones.
