„So, you think you can come back to the team that quickly after you were ready to leave it without even thinking about it, at least for a second? The S.W.A.T is not a merry-go-round you can jump on and off at will.

It didn't happen often, but Street felt uncomfortable under Luca's piercing eyes. They had been friends once; well, maybe not that close, buddies, and Luca had even slept on his couch for some weeks. But things had happened.

He had felt responsible for his mom, but he had learned the hard way that he had been too trustful. Leaving the jail alone didn't make the past unhappen, and even if she had probably saved his life once by killing his father, it hadn't happened out of love. She had used him back then, and she still used him today.

Realizing this had hurt even more, the knowledge that he had ruined his future at the S.W.A.T with the decision to take her side instead of thinking twice. Hondo had been right with all his warnings, but he hadn't been willing to listen.

But Hondo was not unforgiving; the moment Street had been ready to face the truth, he had offered him a new chance at the S.W.A.T academy. Not so, Luca. The man stared at him with narrowed eyed, and Street felt like he was in junior highschool again, and the principal punished him for overstepping the lines.

„It was a mistake,“ he murmured. „I already knew it when I left the locker room, but... she's my mom.“

„A mom who never was there for you. A mom who will always use you. This is not family. Unlike the team; we are always there for each other at any time, no exception. Someone willing to give this up so easily will never belong to us.“

Hondo stepped closer when Luca grabbed his old coat. „That was harsh,“ he said. „It's not easy for him.“

„No one says it is easy. This is the S.W.A.T, and being a team member has a price. For all of us. Time for him to realize that.“

„But you will give him a chance? He deserves it!“

An almost invisible smile sneaked on Luca's face. „I will bust his ass off during the next weeks, and when he finally will be back in the team, he will have learned his lesson.“

Street stuffed the last clothes into his backpack when Chris entered the locker room. „Hey,“ she murmured.

He turned around with wild sparkling eyes. „Thank you for stabbing me in the back!“

She swallowed; the last she had wanted was to bring him into trouble; to be honest, she liked Street, even though he sometimes acted like a highschool student, not like a team member of the S.W.A.T. But this time... „Hondo asked me.“

„And, of course, you had to tell him the truth.“

„He is my boss. He is our boss. Why did you lie to him?“

„Because I don't need a babysitter. He would only have told me that my mom is only using me again. But this is non of his business.“

Chris kept quiet for a moment. „Maybe it's about time to grow up. This is not the police academy anymore; it's about surviving the everyday madness on the roads of Los Angeles.

Everything you do is Hondo's business because he's responsible for the team. We have to rely on each other at any time. Someone constantly overstepping the lines might bring us into danger one day.“

She paused, sighing slightly. „I'm sorry!“
