Title: Acidic words
Characters: Rey, mention of Kylo Ren
Wordcount: 300
Challenge: acidic
Finished: January 2018

:::

Like so often when she was alone, her thoughts wandered back to Kylo Ren. He hadn't only betrayed the Jedi and killed his own father; no, he was so evil through and through that he wouldn't rest before he wouldn't have annihilated all that was good in this world.

She knew it was only a matter of time, and she would meet him again; the fight would seal her fate. Maybe she would kill him. She ached for it with all her heart, though she knew nothing good could result from so much hate.

There had been a time when she believed it might be possible to save him. She could feel a bond between them, as if they belonged together. But he had betrayed her and tried pulling her onto the dark side. And yes, for a moment, she had felt the urge to give in, to belong at his side until the end of time.

He hadn't been prepared for how deep her love still was, the love for her parents who had left her alone ages ago on a dreary desert planet. She had survived because the hope had kept her moving on, the hope that her parents would return one day. Heroes of the Resistance, who had only done what needed to be done to save their only daughter.

Kylo's words had taken away every hope and had torn her heart apart. The bitter truth. Her parents only poor day laborers; dazzled by the prospect of a better life, they finally sold her daughter to slave traders and abandoned her to her fate.

If not for anything else he had done, she would always hate him for his acidic words until the day she would kill him... or die by his hand.

Title: Comforting Hugs
Characters/Pairing: Daryl Dixon, Carol Peltier
Wordcount: 200
Challenge: hug
Finished: January 2018

Like through a haze, he heard Carol's cries, felt the uncontrolled trembling of her skinny body. Lost of words, all he could do was to hold her.

Finally, she had to face the truth. Sophia was gone. Everyone had known it for a while already, but Carol had refused to accept it. Daryl had prayed for a wonder together with her, though deep inside, he had long accepted it that all hope for this world would be in vain.

They had opened the barn this morning and had killed all the zombies despite Beth crying and Hershel cursing them. Then, when everyone thought it was over, Sophia stumbled out the door. Or what had reminded of her: an empty shell, only driven by her lowest instincts.

Daryl had lifted the crossbow when he suddenly remembered her soft voice, her shy smile. His hands had started to tremble, his sight blurred. The loud bang made him shudder. It had been Rick who had brought it to an end.

Carol's animal-like outcry tore him out of his reverie. He caught her in his arms when she broke down and held her tight. But maybe it was only because he needed this hug.

Title: Tragic Homecoming
Character: Carrie Mathison, mention of Nicholas Brody
Rating: PG13
Words: 200
Finished: January 2019

:::

Carrie allowed herself to turn her eyes away for a split second. Sometimes, the horror Brody had to endure since he was home again was hard to endure. Most of the days he put on a mask for the media. Played the hero, an idol for every young soldier. Missed for over eight years, tormented and isolated by his kidnappers. His homecoming had been unexpected. But no one seemed to put his integrity into question.

No one but her. What, if she was right, if he finally was broken down under the pressure and had been turned into a terrorist working for al-Qaida? What if there was only one reason why he was back now? The ultimate terror attack in America?

Carrie turned her eyes back to the screens in front of her. Brody had left the bedroom; his wife was still sitting on the bed, looking lost. He was cowering in the corner of the kitchen now, talking to himself, while his body shook visibly. She noticed the scars on his chest, which would always remind him of the tragedy of his life.

This sight almost made Carrie feel sorry for him. Almost. The nagging thought of an upcoming danger was much too present.

Title: Hard to handle
Character: Tabitha Matthews, Victor Kavanaugh
Word Count: 300
Prompt: handle
Rating: PG13

:::

Tabitha pointed at the car wreck. „Are they here,“ she asked. „The pictures you talked about, are they here?“

Victor's eyes seemed to stare into space. „Pictures,“ he mumured. „The pictures. I did hide them because I wanted to forget about them. Too cruel, much too cruel. We need to go!“

„Wait! I know you are afraid. We all are. But these pictures might help us to come home.“

He turned around to face her, puzzled. „Home? The home is here.“

Tabitha bit her lower lip; she felt the urge to cry. Forced herself to remember, that she was here for some weeks only, together with her family. So much had happened that she would have thought impossible, Julie almost died, Jim almost died, Ethan almost died, she almost died. But in the end, they all were still here, still alive. She was not alone.

When Victor stranded here years and years ago, he was still a young boy. He had lost his parents, had seen so many people die, until he finally was all alone for a long, long time. Hard to imagine how he could survive.

Tabitha forced her thoughts back; under other circumstances, she would have felt pity, but at the moment, she couldn't handle his annoying behavior.

All she wanted was to go back home again, with Jim, Julie and Ethan; she wanted this nightmare coming to an end. Maybe the solution lay within her reach, hidden in the pictures a little boy had drawn ages ago. „I could take the pictures,“ she suggested. „I will bring them to the colony house and...“

„No!“ Panic flared up in Victor's dark eyes. „You aren't allowed to see them. No one is. They belong to Carol. Carol is my sister. She is dead! Everyone is dead!“

Word Count: 100
Prompt: skull / little madness
Rating: PG13

:::

Feeling exhausted, Kurdy squeezed his eyes shut. „I can't believe this happened only some miles from the Mountain. It will never be the same again to live here.“

Carefully, Smith put the skull down. „It happened long before Markus came here, throughout the first weeks of the Big Death. People weren't ready to deal with it. What they finally did was not cruel but desperation.“

Kurdy let his eyes wander to the hole filled with bones. „Where do you know this from?“

„I don't, but God knows. He sent me here, to finally give them the peace they deserve.“
