Sam watched Gollum gobbling up the raw fish and shuddered visibly. „I can't get it, Mr. Frodo, how can you feel pity with him? He's so disgusting.“

Tired, Frodo turned his head, one hand clasp the ring hanging around his neck. „How can I blame him, Sam? It's not his fault that he never realized that his treasure is more a curse than a blessing. When it grabs for your soul, there is no escape.“

The determined glance in Sam's eyes made him smile. „This will not happen to you, Mr. Frodo! Not as long as I am still breathing.“
